Community Fitness Scholarship and Fund
The past couple months have been challenging for everyone—some of us more so than others. And most recently, CrossFit has endured its own share of critique, coming under fire for lacking diversity in its membership. The biggest obstacle to entry for many is the cost, which is understandable.
What we have learned during the shut down is, we think, pretty amazing: that community and training can continue outside the walls of the gym and with limited equipment, when athletes have received a solid training foundation and have a clear understanding of the methodology.
We have also learned that we can do more for outreach into our community to serve people who are not equipped financially to pay for membership. We cannot, however, lower our costs. Most CrossFit gyms run extremely lean balance sheets, and ours is no exception. Our basic operating expenses, including our lease, utilities, supplies, and coaching payroll (which does NOT include the owners), are roughly 6k per month. We receive, on average, 9K in membership.
Therefore, we have established the Community Fitness Scholarship and Fund. This scholarship covers an introductory month plus two months of unlimited training to community members, and then equips them to continue training on their own at the close of their 3 month scholarship. With a solid foundation of training, they will be able to continue working out with access to at-home programming and remote, asynchronous coaching.
